Kylie Barnes - Bagpiper

The sound of the bagpipes can evoke a sense of heritage and solemnity, offering comfort to mourners.

A bagpiper can lead the procession from the house or funeral home to the church, crematoria, or burial site.

Once the funeral service is complete, the pipes can be played as  guests are leaving.

Each funeral  service is tailored by me, depending on your requirements working in collaboration with the family and the celebrant/vicar taking the funeral service.

I currently play with the City of Rochester Pipe Band and have performed at numerous events.

MUSIC

Some popular tunes for funerals include:

  • Amazing Grace: A well-known and widely loved hymn.
  • Flowers of the Forest: A traditional Scottish lament.
  • Highland Cathedral: A lament played all over the world and often at funerals and others such as:-
  • Flower of Scotland
  • Westering Home
  • Sleep Deerie Sleep
  • Mist Covered Mountains
  • Eliza
  • Skye Boat Song and many more

To whom it may concern,

We had the pleasure of having Kylie present for our Burns Lunch at The Tovil Masonic Centre on Sunday the 26th of January 2026. She immediately made an impression with her very kind and warm nature when introducing herself. Her turn out for the event was first class as was he rendition of the pieces of music we asked her to do whilst escorting the haggis and afterwards.  Every person present complimented us on her piping skills. It was obvious on this occasion she was very nervous but once she started that seemed to fade.  I also had the privilege of meeting up with her at the Burns Lunch I attended at the Croydon Masonic Centre you were once again immaculately turned, and the music was again wonderful.

We have already booked her for next year’s Sunday lunch and would highly recommend her should you need a piper.  Yours, Maurice Stanford

To whom it may concern,

We recently engaged Kylie Barnes to play at our Lodge’s Burns Night meeting.

Her duties on the evening included piping in the Master & distinguished guests, she then accompanied the haggis on its journey around the dining room, prior to it being addressed, before leading it back out for serving.  As well as sounding amazing, Kylie looked resplendent in her traditional Scottish dress.  Kylie’s playing made the evening so much more of a spectacle and I would have no reservations in recommending anyone in considering her to take part in their function.

Yours sincerely & fraternally, Sean Bradnam - Secretary – Lavender Lodge

To whom it may concern;

I had occasion to invite Kylie Barnes to play at a Burns Supper for us last month at the Globe & Laurel Lodge, Deal and we were delighted with her performance.  The quality of her piping was excellent when she both piped in the haggis and later played some sets for us during the dinner.  I have no hesitation in recommending her to any organisation wishing to enhance their function. Best regards, Graham Dear.

Grateful Thanks

Many thanks to Kylie for playing the pipes at the funeral of our Mother (Pat Erricker) on November 27th at  Hawkinge Crematorium.

We had proper Highland weather for the day and Kylie leading the hearse in the rain while playing the Mingulay Boat Song made the ceremony so very atmospheric. Our Mother would have been delighted as she was an enthusiastic Scottish country dancer, and always loved the sound of the pipes.  We would absolutely recommend Kylie, especially for those with any Scottish connections. Thanks again Kylie.

Nigel Erricker and Liz Pinn (Pat's son and daughter).
